Life is Picking Up

In moments when things seem to get going in a great ‘”rhythm” life comes out of the blue and moves faster. These moments truly test the ability of an individual. Often, I think people overlook the fact that life is a “ride” and one that we can learn a lot from it on a regular basis if we are willing.

There haven’t been many “posts” concerning business, ideas, or theories on life recently on this blog and that is because of a few great changes that have occurred over the past few months that jolted life in an amazing way. But, in every one of these moments I am starting to realize that there are things to be learned in every circumstance. Every moment is only a starting point for the following moments.

But how do we take in every moment to the best of our ability?

I believe that it falls on a way that I do try to “understand”: research – organize – minimize. These there ways that I look at understanding the world can play out in learning from the moments we live through. If we are willing to do the following, we may get more out of what we do in life:

  1. Research – Look into the situation around you and how it is helping you in life, business, friendship, and with life in general.
  2. Organize – Step back and look at the whole picture and organize it.
  3. Minimize – Remember, the generations that are here in these moments are in “information overload” and in many ways, we need to only remember the important moments and keep those learning details only.

Business as a Style

I am starting to realize that business is a means to learn and yet I have more questions then answers concerning the topic. My goal is to know and understand the ins / outs of what we call “business” especially in the area of technology and yet, there seems to be a wall stopping a connection between myself and entrepreneurs of like minds to connect.

There is no “one person” with all the answers but there are a lot of individuals who have a few answers and those are the people I need to meet and learn from. I have questions and I simply want to learn, create the best product, and work with it until it is a billion dollar corporation then, do it again.

As you may know, my tag is simple… Creative – Executing – Ideas. I believe that the creativeness is already here with executable ideas, but finding the best way to execute is making a difficult comeback on a regular basis.

One of the major things I realize is that the “execution” of any idea is the key component. A project that we at Randomly Famous, LLC are working on specifically talks about the difficulty in management to take an idea through to execution.

For some reason this fact makes me truly consider how I’ve taken some projects all the way through and others I’ve only started. If there has to be management consultants that deal specifically with executing ideas, what are they capable that I am not capable of?

This is where my goose chase for entrepreneurs starts… And, where most of my questions are coming from concerning the idea of business. For me at least, there seems to be an overlooked avenue for business strategy execution. There have been a few “posts” concerning this topic but none have sufficiently answered my question.

Here is the simple “action” that I need from you:

  • Tell me in a post below and/or in a backlink to your blog / idea / theory / etc that would help entrepreneurs with execution.
  • Send one entrepreneur to me that would be willing to talk on the phone for 15 minutes.

Simple Helpful

Often people forget the importance of remembering those ‘little things’ that we all need to remember. Especially when it comes to passwords, tutorials, cool websites, ideas, and other nonsense.

Until recently, I hadn’t found a way to keep all of these things in order until @flakblas introduced me to the two following programs. I completely recommend these two programs for a simple knowledge base and password safe. They are easy to set up and you can keep them in your Dropbox so that they go where ever you are. Let me know if you have any other ideas for productivity and note taking!

  • TiddlyWiki – TiddlyWiki is a reusable non-linear personal web notebook. It’s a unique wiki that people around the world love using to keep ideas and information organised.
  • Keepass – KeePass is a free open source password manager, which helps you to manage your passwords in a secure way. You can put all your passwords in one database, which is locked with one master key or a key file. So you only have to remember one single master password or select the key file to unlock the whole database.
  • And, because I store both of these in one spot, Dropbox

Now, here are my ideas for news aggregation, please let me know if you have any ideas for this: (From early blog post)

The world of news is endless and in many ways there is a sense of news overload. But, yesterday someone did ask what websites I watched for technology related to Randomly Famous, LLC. Here is my short list of websites that I check on a more regular basis, in no particular order. I do want to say though, news is news and needs to be filtered because some of the content isn’t news worthy. This is no perfect list so if you have suggestions, please let me know, I am truly trying to learn more about filtering the good news vs. the bad news. Plus, looking for aggregation tools, new sites to check out, and so on. Fill me in below!

And for the news, generalized:

Now, tell me more things for this list! Even your personal sites that are brilliant, I want to hear them all and will personally check them out!

iPhone Time

I am still trying to figure out if I want an iPhone or if I should stay with my Android. Either way, here is some interesting information that I just found on iPhone about codes that you should probably read, here is the reblog:

Developer reveals common Iphone passcodes

Poor security is widespread
Wed Jun 15 2011, 12:52

AMERICAN APP DEVELOPER Daniel Amitay has published the most commonly used passcodes on Apple Iphones in his blog.

The post on student and Iphone developer Daniel Amitay’s blog reveals the passcodes most commonly used to get onto Apple’s shiny Iphones. He conducted the research using his own app called Big Brother Camera Security.

The 10 most common passcodes according to Amitay’s findings are, in ascending order, 1234, 0000, 2580, 1111, 5555, 5683, 0852, 2222, 1212 and 1998. The top ten passcodes used to unlock the Iphone make up 15 per cent of all passcodes in use.

Amitay didn’t spend forever looking over peoples shoulders and writing down passcodes 204,508 times but used his app to record the data. He anonymously recorded passcodes that people used for his application.

His app for the Iphone, which takes a photo of anyone using your phone without permission, uses a lock screen that’s almost identical to the one used by the Iphone itself. For this reason he thinks his findings should correlate well to what people use for their passcodes for the Iphone.

There’s also the fact that most people like to use the same codes for things to avoid confusion and forgetting things.

Among the same digit passcodes are ones that spell words, that is, 5683 spells ‘Love’. Amitay wrote that passcodes ranging from 1990 to 2000 are all in the top 50, and 1980 to 1989 are all in the top 100, and he said, “I would interpret this occurrence as a subset of users that set their passcodes to the year of their birth or graduation.”

If the findings really do match the actual passcodes of Iphone users then with the top 10 codes making up 15 per cent, nearly 1 in 7 Iphones can be unlocked within 10 blind attempts.

A day after he put his blog post up Apple removed Amitay’s app from the App Store. In a tweet Amitay said, “The Apple gods that be have removed Big Brother Camera Security from the App Store. Working on getting it back on!” µ

So, with that being said, and the fact that there are ‘unlocked’ phones now, makes me think that I should head that direction at some point soon, what do you think?

The News Catcher

The world of news is endless and in many ways there is a sense of news overload. But, yesterday someone did ask what websites I watched for technology related to Randomly Famous, LLC. FiveFinger Shoes

More often then not, I’ve been noticing ‘different’ aspects of people around me, from styles of talking to the shoes people wear. But more recently then not, I have seen so many people in these FiveFinger Shoes. I know, we all have different styles but I don’t think these shoes fit the suite and tie business outfit.

To give them a fair thought, here is a link for you to see yourself. So, click here for the Vibram FiveFingers and please tell me your thoughts, I am curious if I am just in this ‘noticing different styles’ or if my thoughts resinate with others. Simple as that!

A Breakfast Business

An early morning came and breakfast at McDonalds was inevitable. So, Mark (@Flakblas) and I met up, had breakfast, and chatted life with a mixing bowl of business.

Recently, he has been introducing me to a few new tools that I am now addicted to that I will list at the bottom of this blog, but he also has a business sense that intermixed with my thought processing.  It started with the service at McDonalds and ended on the inflation of mobile application prices.

The price of these applications has extended beyond the normal price model that we have for business retail. And, to be honest, that is one reason I’ve launched Randomly Famous, LLC into the mix as well.

It is just a matter of time until this bubble has burst and the true price is found but those entrepreneurs / venture capitalist that latch on now, will forever be grateful. So, with this consistent change of pace in the world of business, I’ve needed to find myself a tool that organizes my knowledge base.

And finally, Mark has introduced me to it in his blog post called Tiddlywiki. There are so many benefits to this simple program and the mix of Dropbox. It has taken my quick changing mindset and has allowed me to write each idea out for mobile applications to future retail stores in one central location.

You will see how simple it is after you download it and play around. I promise you, if you are an entrepreneur, you will be in love. We often forget our past ideas when new ones come along like a mobile application business. This simple html + javascript allows us to always remember and return to the original ideas. It simply allows us to:

  1. Contemplate our ideas
  2. Expand on thought processing
  3. Take advantage of the mobile application market
  4. And remember how / when it took place so we can repeat in the future

Check it out, download it, and say thanks to Mark for making me try it and allowing me to put aside ideas for a moment and race after the market in front. If I didn’t have this tool, I might have lost out on where I was in my knowledge base.

Internal Hiring

Many individuals, even myself, have found job hunting to be a tedious process, especially when your goal is to reach outside of the market you already know. This thought has captivated my thinking for the last two days because I truly believe there is a solution to being connected with future employers.

On Monday, I chatted Jake (@JobRTBot) and without either of us knowing it, I think we crossed a divide and found a knowledge base for job hunting / networking.

No, I personally am not looking for any new job but the networking behind our conversation is the key component. It isn’t about what you know but more focused on who you know. And for a person like me I think you can find and meet almost anyone.

Jake and I had been tweeting back and forth for a while then got back into the conversation over Gmail chat. After our conversation, I would hire him, pay more, and wait longer to get him as an employee rather then going to a company like Monster Jobs, CareerBuilder, and so on.

Why you may ask? This question has been my true contemplation from the beginning and the answer might help a few people grab jobs.

The answer is simple, “we talked.”

This open door conversation allowed me to learn more about his background, what he does, how he does it and vise-versa. There was no ‘corporate’ working we had to get around or conversation that we had to reign in, Jack and I were ourselves. To me, this means four basic things:

  1. – Find anyone in the company and have a light conversation, ask them for coffee, chat with them over Twitter, ask how they like the job, and simply be yourself.
  2. – Don’t Use them so truly try to learn anything you can from them.
  3. – Remember that you might make a friend / coworker / networker so always follow through with everything.
  4. – Be yourself no matter the cause, it is usually more interesting then a fake you.

These three steps aren’t a ‘solve all’ for the job search but they are a starting point. I know that I would rather hire someone I know / have spoken with prior to hiring someone off of a resume only.

This was some food for thought that I was thinking about after my conversation with Jake. It is amazing to learn who you can know through Social Media and a little bit of networking.

Writing it Out

I have deleted this sentence a few times but now have decided to keep it, work it out, and move it forward. Welcome to my discombobulated mindset in writing at the moment.

The reason I write in this moment? I need to think it out, comprehend it, and capture the reasoning quickly before I forget why I am thinking differently then my normal self. So, that gets me to the point of this post and the theory behind my writing.

How do you comprehend the times that are different?

I am not speaking about the bad times or the hard times but simply the situations that are just confusing and can have multiple right answers with only one that can be chosen. For me, there seems to be a confusing ‘fog’ that is overwhelming my mindset in the area of writing.

My goal for the day is to step myself through a list of thoughts to move my clarity back in and focus forward. In essence, I have a routine since life is different often, people are confusing, and the world wont stop for you to figure it out. This is my list:

  • Breath and take it all for a walk
  • Remember that it is all a circle and will be back to me soon
  • Ask myself if I have a day to be confused (can I stop everything for one day)
  • If not, step up and get the job done while working through it.

Basic ideas but ones that I have to remind myself especially in moments like this where the blog has been lacking for a simple ‘relaxation’ of writing ideas. It is time to walk and step forward into to the reasons that my mind works the way it does and here we go…

Thinking Around

With a lot of ideas floating around, there seems to always be space to network / chat / organize / and take time to think. I have to say that this has been a good week thus far and it continues. Though my networking hasn’t been moving forward as quickly as I like but at least I am getting responses from people like Bill Gates. Yes, I am aiming for anyone to network with, here is the latest response from Bill Gates’ Foundation. Any other ideas on how to just have coffee with these types of people? Anyone want to network now?

Here is the latest response from the Gates Foundation:

Dear Mr. Elliott,

Thank you for contacting the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

We appreciate your request to meet Mr. Gates. Unfortunately, due to his current level of commitments and the number of requests he receives, he is unavailable and must respectfully decline.

On behalf of the foundation, we wish you the best.

Sincerely,
