Working out in the AM?

Recently, I have been trying to analyze why I like working out in the morning. For me, it helps my day ‘go smoother’ and stay more focused. But why?

“If you start exercising, your brain recognizes this as a moment of stress. As your heart pressure increases, the brain thinks you are either fighting the enemy or fleeing from it. To protect yourself and your brain from stress, you release a protein called BDNF(Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor). This BDNF has a protective and also reparative element to your memory neurons and acts as a reset switch. That’s why we often feel so at ease and like things are clear after exercising. At the same time, endorphins, another chemical to fight stress, are released in your brain…”

Until I read this article, I didn’t realize why working out even made a difference with my mindset. Nor did I realize why a simple walk would be so soothing and relaxing for the mind. What do you do as a mental exercise / physical exercise to sooth your day?

Business as a Style

I am starting to realize that business is a means to learn and yet I have more questions then answers concerning the topic. My goal is to know and understand the ins / outs of what we call “business” especially in the area of technology and yet, there seems to be a wall stopping a connection between myself and entrepreneurs of like minds to connect.

There is no “one person” with all the answers but there are a lot of individuals who have a few answers and those are the people I need to meet and learn from. I have questions and I simply want to learn, create the best product, and work with it until it is a billion dollar corporation then, do it again.

As you may know, my tag is simple… Creative – Executing – Ideas. I believe that the creativeness is already here with executable ideas, but finding the best way to execute is making a difficult comeback on a regular basis.

One of the major things I realize is that the “execution” of any idea is the key component. A project that we at Randomly Famous, LLC are working on specifically talks about the difficulty in management to take an idea through to execution.

For some reason this fact makes me truly consider how I’ve taken some projects all the way through and others I’ve only started. If there has to be management consultants that deal specifically with executing ideas, what are they capable that I am not capable of?

This is where my goose chase for entrepreneurs starts… And, where most of my questions are coming from concerning the idea of business. For me at least, there seems to be an overlooked avenue for business strategy execution. There have been a few “posts” concerning this topic but none have sufficiently answered my question.

Here is the simple “action” that I need from you:

  • Tell me in a post below and/or in a backlink to your blog / idea / theory / etc that would help entrepreneurs with execution.
  • Send one entrepreneur to me that would be willing to talk on the phone for 15 minutes.

A Breakfast Business

An early morning came and breakfast at McDonalds was inevitable. So, Mark (@Flakblas) and I met up, had breakfast, and chatted life with a mixing bowl of business.

Recently, he has been introducing me to a few new tools that I am now addicted to that I will list at the bottom of this blog, but he also has a business sense that intermixed with my thought processing.  It started with the service at McDonalds and ended on the inflation of mobile application prices.

The price of these applications has extended beyond the normal price model that we have for business retail. And, to be honest, that is one reason I’ve launched Randomly Famous, LLC into the mix as well.

It is just a matter of time until this bubble has burst and the true price is found but those entrepreneurs / venture capitalist that latch on now, will forever be grateful. So, with this consistent change of pace in the world of business, I’ve needed to find myself a tool that organizes my knowledge base.

And finally, Mark has introduced me to it in his blog post called Tiddlywiki. There are so many benefits to this simple program and the mix of Dropbox. It has taken my quick changing mindset and has allowed me to write each idea out for mobile applications to future retail stores in one central location.

You will see how simple it is after you download it and play around. I promise you, if you are an entrepreneur, you will be in love. We often forget our past ideas when new ones come along like a mobile application business. This simple html + javascript allows us to always remember and return to the original ideas. It simply allows us to:

  1. Contemplate our ideas
  2. Expand on thought processing
  3. Take advantage of the mobile application market
  4. And remember how / when it took place so we can repeat in the future

Check it out, download it, and say thanks to Mark for making me try it and allowing me to put aside ideas for a moment and race after the market in front. If I didn’t have this tool, I might have lost out on where I was in my knowledge base.

Writing it Out

I have deleted this sentence a few times but now have decided to keep it, work it out, and move it forward. Welcome to my discombobulated mindset in writing at the moment.

The reason I write in this moment? I need to think it out, comprehend it, and capture the reasoning quickly before I forget why I am thinking differently then my normal self. So, that gets me to the point of this post and the theory behind my writing.

How do you comprehend the times that are different?

I am not speaking about the bad times or the hard times but simply the situations that are just confusing and can have multiple right answers with only one that can be chosen. For me, there seems to be a confusing ‘fog’ that is overwhelming my mindset in the area of writing.

My goal for the day is to step myself through a list of thoughts to move my clarity back in and focus forward. In essence, I have a routine since life is different often, people are confusing, and the world wont stop for you to figure it out. This is my list:

  • Breath and take it all for a walk
  • Remember that it is all a circle and will be back to me soon
  • Ask myself if I have a day to be confused (can I stop everything for one day)
  • If not, step up and get the job done while working through it.

Basic ideas but ones that I have to remind myself especially in moments like this where the blog has been lacking for a simple ‘relaxation’ of writing ideas. It is time to walk and step forward into to the reasons that my mind works the way it does and here we go…

Thinking Around

With a lot of ideas floating around, there seems to always be space to network / chat / organize / and take time to think. I have to say that this has been a good week thus far and it continues. Though my networking hasn’t been moving forward as quickly as I like but at least I am getting responses from people like Bill Gates. Yes, I am aiming for anyone to network with, here is the latest response from Bill Gates’ Foundation. Any other ideas on how to just have coffee with these types of people? Anyone want to network now?

Here is the latest response from the Gates Foundation:

Dear Mr. Elliott,

Thank you for contacting the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

We appreciate your request to meet Mr. Gates. Unfortunately, due to his current level of commitments and the number of requests he receives, he is unavailable and must respectfully decline.

On behalf of the foundation, we wish you the best.

Sincerely,

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

The Hardest Part, Execution

As you watch companies like Facebook or its now underdog MySpace, there seems to be this ‘aw’ and ‘astonishment’ to these brilliant ideas that Mark Zuckenberg and others came up with. I don’t mean to be little their ideas but so often we see the outside finished product and just think that it took a brilliant person to come up with such a grand idea.

Well, I am here to switch that thinking. I am positive that Mark Zuckenberg wasn’t the first person to think of an idea like Facebook. The truth is, we should be truly astonished by the fact that Zuckenberg executed this idea and made it truly happen, even if he wasn’t the first.

In a slow process, I’ve started to learn that the process of coming up with ideas isn’t the only hard part of building a business. Executing these dreams take the time and effort. In essence my personal tag line says “creatively – executing – ideas.” The more I read this tag the more I realize the depth of it. It isn’t simply about ideas but also the execution and creative problem solving that makes a brilliant idea.

It seems that there are three things you have to do to get a brilliant idea into a company that grows and astonishes others. Those simple three steps I think will build companies that are grand in nature for us “internet entrepreneurs”. Simply put:

  1. Lay the Ideas Out
  2. Problem Solve Creatively
  3. Understand how to Execute

Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and LinkedIn, all took time and accomplished this while continuing this mindset throughout the grand growth of their companies. They, in their own business mindsets, creatively executed ideas and brought up the social networking world in a whole new realm that was unreached till they took the time to execute their creative ideas.

Contemplation is Key

Often when it comes to brainstorming, I’ve realized that I don’t contemplate the ideas for a extensive period of time. Simple as that, I don’t sit down and think over a concept after it has come into existence. There are moments on a regular basis that need simple time and contemplation rather then quick decisions.

Normally, I live by a statue of hurry and wait but I am starting to think that in moments of brainstorming and problem solving it revolves around waiting a bit and fully contemplating each idea.

I know for a fact that this is the cause of my father, Dr. Elliott. He has always encouraged me to contemplate specifically my business ideas from Randomly Famous to Living Hope, and now Random Rental.

So to the painless point of this, take time to think and understand. We live rushed lives and yet thinking is the power we control that can be slowed down. And personally, I want to control what I have control over and slow it down to contemplate ideas fully and “creatively – execute – ideas.”

Continual Ideas

For a little while I’ve tried to figure out why my mind comes up with random ideas on a regular basis. I am not just talking about new entrepreneurial ideas but also business solutions, inventions, systems, and performance styles.

So, how and why does this occur a lot of the time for me? I think it is because my mind is set in a continual circle and debate aligned with the idea of brainstorming. No, I am not saying that my ideas are amazing or the next potential ‘big hit’. I see myself as attempting a million, failing a billion, and succeeding at a few. The ride is the part that I enjoy, the completion and success is what I drive for.

The tag line I live by came from this theory, “creatively – executing – ideas”. I come up with creative (not always great) ideas. I try to continually execute each one, even if that means I run them into the ground. And, both of these things occur because of a continuous soup bowl of ideas venturing in and out of my mind.

In simple form, that is how Random Rental came about. I was chatting on the phone with a friend in California who started WebConnect, realized that I wish I could rent out the things I don’t use on a regular basis, wrote it down and left it there. Then, as the day went on I listened to conversations, probed the idea into people’s minds, listened to responses, and heard about hundreds of things that lay around a house wasting away.

Aletheia pointed out many ways that we could use it for our home life from the lawnmower to the rake… The GPS unit to our books. And, my mind continued to go into a realm of brainstorming by labeling the problem I saw, adding in the solution I wanted to see, knowing what I personally wanted to add to the business idea and get out of the venture as a whole.

Random Rental will open its doors in the near future, less then a few months for the best and/or for the worst. Depending on the use we will find out if it is a amazing idea or a failing idea. Though, no matter what I’ve stuck to my tag line of “creatively – executing – ideas”. And, my theory is that everyone comes up with ideas on a regular basis but we don’t stick with them long enough and/or remember them. My solution…

Write down every thought and remember, you may have the next Facebook/ExemplaryPerformance/Apple/Google idea!

I Almost Did

I almost used this as a venting post for my thoughts then realized, what is the purpose and who would care? Everyone has a bad day and this blog isn’t about exploiting it. To be honest, I am not even having a bad day, but my mind is leading me down the road of upset over nothing. I rather use that towards creativity and networking. This thinking made me dig deep into my sub-conscious to find out why I am writing at all and to ask the simple question, why use social media?

It is all about being a creative thought leader who uses his network to execute.

After I read this a few times I realized how much it fell into my mission / tag statement which says “Creatively – Executing – Ideas”. For a few days I thought about my response for why to use social media and still kept with the same idea, it is a way to execute ideas through the network created. Sure, you can see it as a way to market your company, find new employees, become a leader, and/or become a famous individual but all of these things all fall into the realm of networking.

It’s a simple answer for a simple person like me. I truly realized that if we see social media in this way we would represent ourselves, our businesses, our markets a million times better because we would want to reach person not to be simply a number but someone who will help out.

Each individual you meet on the social networking world will be able to help you in one way or another. So, for me it is all about being a creative thought leader who uses his network to execute. Welcome to my life!

Brainstorming

I was sick over the past weekend and it hasn’t been getting any better. My cough seems to roughen, my lungs seem to fail, and my heart keeps racing. What a joyous situation to have going on in this moment. But why do I share that?

This ‘episode’ has happened to me three times this past year and my wife and I have realized that the way to fix it (medications) has become a short-term fix. So, we have decided to look into homeopathic ideas for breathing / asthma.

Great, great, great… Another personal blog post. You could complain but there is one large thing that stuck out about this scenario, we brainstormed ideas, more ideas, and even more ideas to see what we had on the platter to chose from.

I am sure that I will write more specifically about brainstorming but the thing is, people can practice it in every moment of every day. All we need to do is give every idea a chance because it might be the great idea and/or the best inspiration if we let it. To simplify the world around us, here is the way I begin:

  1. Find the Problem – Sickness
  2. Label the Outcome You Want – Healthiness
  3. Write / Walk / Write – Medicines / Homeopathic / Exercise
  4. Chose & Try – Medicines don’t work (problem) / Trying Homeopathic
  5. Allow Failure
  6. Find Solutions & Ideas

These are six steps to a million ideas and solutions. The truth is, many of the ideas you and I come up with wont work but you won’t know unless you try (even this idea wont work unless you try the theory out).

When someone usually labels a problem there are a million solutions that a team will come up with and for the most part, everyone thinks that it is their idea or the highway. The problem is that we need to capture every idea since everyone has their own expertise and pull these common themes and successful ideas together.

After the problem has been stated and the outcome has been found. The only way to go after this outcome is to write as many ideas down as I can, go for a walk with another person who has the same mindset, come back and write again. I will do this over and over again till I come up with something I semi like. The final solution/idea usually takes the form of a few of the unsatisfying ideas I didn’t care fore earlier on.

That’s where the ‘chose and try’ strategy comes to play. We have to choose what we are going to try and go after it full heartedly and without any reservation. And always remember, it is okay to fail. Allowing failure is sometimes the best advice I was ever given but a hard one to come by.

My goal, and hopefully not to my failure, in life is to creatively execute ideas and I know for a fact that I will have a thousand failed ideas before one successful. But sooner then later we will find solutions and new ideas that will manifest in a great way. I like my odds, do you like yours?
